When your refrigerator is no longer cold, it is time to figure out what the problem is. A lot of times it’s something as simple as a routine coil cleaning behind the refrigerator. However, with new fridges, they are equipped with a variety of sensors as well.
Before we investigate further, we monitor the most typical and simple reasons for this problem. Here are some of the things that we have found lead to a refrigerator not cooling:
Is the cord plugged into an outlet? This might seem like it is an odd question, but we have been hired for appointments that this was the reason for the problem. For some reason, the refrigerator was unplugged. it’s possible a pet unplugged it, or an electrician while doing a project. Whatever the cause may be, make sure it is plugged in.
Check the thermostat inside. This is a common issue for those with children in their house. After all, children love dials and buttons and so, without understanding they’re doing something bad, they play with them. So, check that the thermostat setting is not the reason for the warm refrigerator.
Refrigerator Parts to Inspect?
Be sure all of the vents inside the freezer are not blocked with containers or food. This is very common because bags of frozen vegetables get jammed in the back. There might be food in the very back of a freezer that has been forgotten.
Check that the condenser cooling fan is clean and clear of all debris. To do this, unplug the refrigerator and slide it away from the kitchen wall. The fan for many models is right at the bottom or somewhere in the back of the freezer unit. Many times, homeowner don’t think about cleaning this area of the fridge. But, it is important to keep it clean. And, it builds up with fuzz and dust quickly, especially with houses that have pets. So, find a rag and get the collected dust out of the coils and cooling fan.
This is not suggested for refrigerators that have the rear coil system. Once all clean, plug it back into the outlet and see if the cooling fan moves.
The Freezer is Cold but the Fridge is Not
There are a few more causes for a refrigerator that won’t cool after these obvious ones to start to check if your freezer is cool but the refrigerator is not. The evaporator coils are frosted over. This happens when there’s a failure in the defrost heating system. Or when the automatic defrost has an issue. The evaporator fan motor is another cause.
Every fridge has a set of evaporator coils. These coils are what cool and the fan moves the cold air around inside the unit. The damper control assembly is not working properly. The temperature control board transports the electricity to the fan and compressor, this isn’t likely the issue but it’s worth troubleshooting.
And, the thermistor might be defective, which is a tiny sensor inside the unit that displays the temperature. Having one of our repairmen look at it is the best course of action but these are a few of of the most common problems.
